Born in 1973 in Khon Kaen, in the north of Thailand, Kamsing discovered Muay Thai at a very young age. Indeed, Somrak Kamsing was only seven years old when he started practicing Muay Thai. When he was eleven years old, he moved to Bangkok to start his professional career and fight in the most famous stadiums. His older brother Somrot Kamsing is also an amateur boxer.

Track Record
One of the most prominent victories of this amateur boxer remains his success during the Summer Olympic Games which were held in Atlanta in 1996, and during which he obtained the gold medal in the lightweight category, following his wins against boxers such as Ramaz Paliani from Geogia and Serafim Todorov from Bulgaria, thus becoming the first Thai athlete to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. He then took part in the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000 as well as the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, without however winning any medal. Somluck was deemed one of the best Muay Thai fighters before converting to the amateur category. He did a come-back in 2012, still as an amateur, in order to fight legends off-category such as Jomhod Kiatadisak and Yodwanpadet Sor Junlasen.

Other striking facts
His gold medal obtained at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 allowed him to gain prominence and be selected to light the torch during the opening ceremony of the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok. Another interesting fact is that Somluck Kamsing made a brief appearance in a few cinema movies, including “Fearless” with Jet Li. In 2006, he also released an album and a video clip.
