Sam Roi Yot National Park: What you shouldn’t miss

Sam Roi Yot National Park, also known as Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, is one of Thailand’s most popular national parks. Located on the Western coast of the Prachuap Khiri Khan province, about 60-km south of Hua Hin, it offers a breathtaking view over the gulf of Thailand. Khao Sam Roi Yot literally means « the mountain with three-hundred peaks ». This name was given to the region due to the presence of a series of hills, the tallest of which reaches an altitude of 605 meters. This park is mainly composed of fresh water wetlands which cover about 37% of its surface, making it Thailand’s single most humid area. Phraya Nakhon Cave

With its emblematic royal pavilion built in 1890 in honor of King Rama V, Phraya Nakhon Cave is without any doubt an icon and hallmark of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. It is particularly popular due to the exceptional lights that shine at the entrance of the royal pavilion.

Kaeo Cave

Although not as famous as Phraya Nakhon cave, Kaeo Cave impresses due to its massive stalactites and stalagmites. As it this cave is difficult to access and filled with bats and Asian scorpions, you will have to be accompanied by a guide certified by the parc’s office.

Phraya beach

This splendid beach is located south of Prachuap, on the road leading to Khao Daeng. Very shallow and bordered with trees, it is generally calm and almost empty. If you enjoy camping, you can rent tents and camp onsite. For food, you will find a small restaurant on the beach which is open from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Kao Daeng Lake

This is a natural lake connected to the sea by a canal. Boat rides across the forest and the wetlands are regularly organized in Ban Khao Daeng village. This is the perfect spot for bird watching and to discover limestones hills. The sunset on the lake is equally stunning. Bear in mind that a boat ride costs about 500 bahts per group and can only be arranged on site.
